Templates and Manuscript Layout
'ARABIYYUN MUBIN uses two separate template files. Use the Indonesian/English template for Indonesian or English manuscripts, and the Arabic template for Arabic manuscripts. Authors should use only the template that matches the manuscript language.
| Element | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Paper size | A4, single column. |
| Margins | Top 3 cm; left 3 cm; right 3 cm; bottom 2.5 cm. |
| Arabic font | Sakkal Majalla 16 pt for body text, 17 pt bold for headings, 14 pt for Arabic references. |
| Latin font | Times New Roman 11 pt for body text, 10 pt for abstracts, 9.5 pt for references. |
| Spacing | Single spacing, with a 0.7 cm first-line indent. |
| Section headings | Bold and unnumbered; subheadings may use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3). |
| Footnotes | For supplementary explanations only, not routine citations. |
Title, Authors, and Affiliations
- The title is limited to 15 words, identifies the main variable or object, and avoids uncommon abbreviations.
- Arabic manuscripts provide an Arabic title followed by an English title. Indonesian manuscripts provide an Indonesian title followed by an English title.
- Author names are written in full without academic degrees or religious honorifics.
- Affiliations include study program, faculty, university, city, and country.
- The corresponding author is marked with an asterisk (*) and should use an institutional email where available.
- Each author must complete an ORCID iD in OJS.
- Author order may not be changed after the manuscript enters peer review.
- Author data is entered in the OJS metadata; the identity block in the manuscript file is deleted or left blank before submission so that the review remains blind.
Abstracts and Keywords
Every manuscript, regardless of its language, must include three abstracts: an Arabic مستخلص, an Indonesian Abstrak, and an English Abstract, each 150–200 words in one paragraph. Every abstract presents the objective/problem, method, main findings, and conclusion or implication, without citations, tables, or undefined abbreviations. Translations must be checked by a proficient human reviewer and must not rely solely on machine translation or AI.
Each abstract is followed by 3–5 keywords in the corresponding language, separated by semicolons. Keywords should represent the topic, object, and method rather than merely repeat words from the title.
Article Structure
Section headings are written in the language of the manuscript and are unnumbered. Arabic manuscripts use Arabic section headings as shown in the Arabic template.
| Section | Arabic Manuscript | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | المقدمة | Background/problem, previous studies, research gap, and objective. |
| Method | منهج البحث | Design, participants or corpus, instruments, and analysis; approximately 10–15% of the article. |
| Results and Discussion | النتائج والمناقشة | Findings and interpretation, compared with previous studies. |
| Conclusion | الخاتمة | One narrative paragraph answering the objective; recommendations in a separate paragraph. |
| Acknowledgments | شكر وتقدير | Optional; added after acceptance. |
| Author Statements | بيان المؤلفين | Author contributions, funding, conflicts of interest, and AI use. |
| References | المراجع | APA 7; see citation requirements below. |
Guidance for Each Section
Introduction (المقدمة). Approximately 15–20% of the article and normally not divided into subheadings. Begin with a real classroom, institutional, linguistic, or literary problem supported by current data and sources; synthesise research from the last 10 years by theme or method; identify the research gap and novelty; and state the research question or objective in the final paragraph. A separate Theoretical Framework (الإطار النظري) may be added before the Method section when necessary.
Method (منهج البحث). The required information depends on the study design:
| Study Type | Required Information |
|---|---|
| Classroom action research | Cycles, success indicators, number and characteristics of students, observation instruments, and tests. |
| Experiment or quasi-experiment | Design, group formation, participant numbers, instrument validity and reliability, assumption tests, statistical tests, and effect size. |
| R&D / instructional media development | Development model (e.g., ADDIE or Borg & Gall), expert validation, limited and field trials, and feasibility criteria. |
| Linguistic study | Corpus/text, edition used, analytical theory, and data selection/classification procedures. |
| Literary study | Work and edition studied, approach (structural, semiotic, intertextual, etc.), and unit of analysis. |
| Translation study | Source and target texts, translation-quality model, raters, and assessment criteria. |
| Systematic review | Databases, search terms, year range, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and PRISMA flow diagram. |
Results and Discussion (النتائج والمناقشة). This section normally occupies 40–50% of the article. Present findings according to the research questions, use numbered subheadings when helpful, interpret the findings, compare them with previous studies, explain agreements or differences, and end with the study limitations.
Conclusion (الخاتمة). Write one narrative paragraph that directly answers the objective without repeating result statistics. Recommendations should appear in a separate paragraph and identify a specific target audience, such as Arabic teachers, curriculum developers, or future researchers.
Special Requirements for Arabic Language Studies
- Write Arabic sentences in Arabic script rather than transliteration. Use full vocalisation when the analysis concerns iʿrāb, ṣarf, or phonology; otherwise use diacritics as needed for clarity.
- Number linguistic examples consecutively. In Latin-script manuscripts, present each example in three lines: Arabic script, IJMES transliteration, and translation in single quotation marks. Arabic-language articles do not need a transliteration line.
- Use IJMES transliteration consistently. Long vowels are ā, ī, ū. Tāʾ marbūṭah is rendered a, and at in an iḍāfah construction. The definite article is written al- and is not assimilated (al-shams, not ash-shams).
- Statistical results follow APA 7 conventions. Tables use horizontal rules only and place the title above the table.
(1) ذَهَبَ الطَّالِبُ إِلَى الْمَدْرَسَةِ
dhahaba al-ṭālibu ilā al-madrasati
‘The student went to the school.’
| Arabic | Latin | Arabic | Latin | Arabic | Latin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ث | th | ذ | dh | ض | ḍ |
| ح | ḥ | ش | sh | ط | ṭ |
| خ | kh | ص | ṣ | ظ | ẓ |
| ع | ʿ | غ | gh | ء | ʾ |
Qur'anic Verses, Hadith, and Poetry
- Qur'anic verses are written with full vocalisation between ﴿ ﴾, followed by a translation and citation in the format QS. Surah Name [number]: verse. Indonesian manuscripts use the official Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs translation; English manuscripts identify the translation used at first occurrence. The Qur'an itself is not included in the reference list, but a cited translation is.
- Hadith is presented in Arabic, followed by translation, narrator/compiler, collection, and hadith number. If numbering differs between editions, identify the numbering system. Hadith outside Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim should include the grading and the scholar responsible for that grading.
- Poetry is presented by verse, with ṣadr and ʿajuz separated clearly, followed by the poet and the referenced dīwān/source. Indonesian or English manuscripts add a translation below the verse.
Quotations, Translation, and Technical Terms
- Direct quotations under 40 words remain in the paragraph; Arabic quotations use « » where appropriate.
- Quotations of 40 words or more are formatted as a block quotation indented 1 cm without quotation marks, with citation and page number at the end.
- Author-produced translations are identified as “author translation” at first occurrence.
- Technical Arabic terms are italicised in transliteration and accompanied by Arabic script at first occurrence, e.g., ḥāl (حال) or mafʿūl muṭlaq (مفعول مطلق). Use terminology consistently throughout.
- Arabic manuscripts use the numerals 1, 2, 3 in line with the template and statistical tables.
Tables and Figures
- Number tables and figures consecutively and refer to each one in the text before it appears.
- Place table titles above tables and figure captions below figures. Place the data source below a table where relevant.
- Tables use horizontal rules only, with no vertical borders or shading, and must be editable Word tables rather than images.
- Figures should be at least 300 dpi.
- The recommended combined total of tables and figures is no more than six.
Citation and References
'ARABIYYUN MUBIN uses APA 7th edition with in-text author–date citation rather than footnotes. Footnotes are reserved for supplementary explanation. Authors must use Zotero or Mendeley.
- Examples of in-text citation: (Hidayat, 2023), (Hidayat & Rahman, 2024, p. 15), or (Sibawayh, 1988, Vol. 1, p. 12).
- Arabic-language articles use Arabic-script citations where appropriate, e.g., (سيبويه، 1988).
- Arabic-language articles separate references into المراجع العربية (Arabic script, Arabic alphabetical order) and المراجع الأجنبية (Latin script, Latin alphabetical order).
- English or Indonesian manuscripts transliterate Arabic references using IJMES and may provide an English title translation in square brackets.
- Include DOI where available.
- Reference lists are alphabetical by surname. Ignore the article al- when alphabetising, so al-Jurjānī is filed under J.
- Classical scholars are written by their established names and are not inverted, e.g., Sībawayh, Ibn Hishām, Ibn Jinnī.
- Classical works should be cited from a verified printed edition. If located through al-Maktaba al-Shāmila, cite the identifiable printed edition underlying the text.
- Every cited source must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
