Social media has become a major space for youth da‘wah, yet the patterns used to deliver religious messages remain understudied. This study analyzes message strategies used by five young preachers on Instagram through the principles of qaulan sadīdā, qaulan balīghā, and qaulan layyinā. Quantitative content analysis is conducted on 300 Reels posts from 2024–2025, with inter-coder reliability measured using Krippendorff’s α = 0.82. The findings indicate that gentle, story-based messages generate the highest engagement, while harsh messages attract more negative comments. The results demonstrate the continuing relevance of Qur’anic communication principles for digital da‘wah and provide practical input for da‘wah institutions designing social-media content.
Keywords: digital da‘wah; Instagram; Islamic communication; qaulan sadida; content analysis
Article Structure
Section headings are left-aligned in small caps and are not numbered, as shown in the article template.
| Section | Expected content |
|---|---|
| Introduction | Background of the communication or international-affairs problem, concise state of the art, research question, and objective. |
| Literature Review and Theoretical Framework | Research from the last 10 years, gap, communication or international-relations theory, and relevant Islamic concepts. |
| Method | Approach, data and sources, data collection, analysis, validity/trustworthiness, and inter-coder reliability where applicable. |
| Results and Discussion | Findings with scientific explanation, comparison with previous research, and answers to the research question. |
| Conclusion | Answer to the research question or objective, implications, recommendations, and future research. |
Guidance for Each Section
- Introduction. Explain the communication or international-affairs problem being studied, summarize the state of the art, and close with the research question and objective. Do not report results in the Introduction.
- Literature Review and Theoretical Framework. Group prior studies from the last 10 years by theme and identify the gap. Build the theoretical framework systematically using, for example, framing, agenda setting, uses and gratifications, situational crisis communication theory, constructivism, soft power, or public diplomacy. Connect the discussion to Qur’anic communication principles such as qaulan sadīdā, qaulan balīghā, qaulan layyinā, qaulan ma‘rūfā, qaulan karīmā, and qaulan maysūrā where relevant.
- Method. Describe the study as an analytical design, including the approach, data, sources, collection procedures, analytical procedures, and validity or trustworthiness.
- Results and Discussion. Present findings with scientific explanation rather than description alone. Compare findings with other research and answer the research question.
- Conclusion. Answer the research question or objective without repeating the results. State practical implications for public-relations practitioners, da‘wah institutions, media organizations, or policymakers, and identify future-research directions.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا

Special Requirements for Communication, Media, and International Affairs
Verification and tabayyun. Consistent with the journal’s name and Qur’an 49:6, factual claims must be verified against primary sources. Online news may be used as research data or illustration, but it should not be the sole evidence for important claims.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا

- Archive easily deleted content, for example with the Wayback Machine, and provide the archive link where appropriate.
- Public institutional and public-figure accounts may be identified. Private accounts of ordinary users should be anonymized, and quotations should be paraphrased where necessary to reduce traceability.

- Informant consent and permission to record should be stated in the Method section.
- International and policy documents should be cited using the official document number, date, and official link, for example a UN General Assembly resolution or an OIC declaration.
Content ethics. Manuscripts must not contain hate speech, insults targeting ethnicity, religion, race, or social group, or calls to hostility. Problematic content quoted as research data should be censored as necessary and clearly described.
Foreign terms are italicized. Arabic transliteration follows the Indonesian joint decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs and the Minister of Education and Culture No. 158/1987 and 0543b/U/1987.
